Costa Rica was named as one of the world’s happiest countries in 2016, by the Happy Planet Index. It also has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Latin America. According to the human well-being and environmental impact, Costa Rica is the most satisfying place to live in. It is also called as “Switzerland of Central America” due to its peaceful history.
Another interesting fact about Costa Rica is that there is no army. The constitution has forbidden a standing army since 1949. Today, the country is the home of the United Nations University of Peace.
Today, the Central American country has found its place in top 40 countries worldwide with a literacy rate of 97.8%. It enjoys a good flora and fauna culture including quetzals along with 500 types of orchid variety. Costa Rica has breath-taking views of the lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and creeks as well.
Hence, HIVE has chosen Costa Rica for conducting the next Leadership event. The event will take place in The Hotel Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort from 26th to 29th January, 2018.
How to Reach: The main airport is Liberia which has many flights from major cities across the globe. The resort is 45 minutes from the airport. Alternatively, one can also fly into San Jose Airport and 4 hours’ drive to the venue.
Where to stay: Since Tamarindo Diria is the event venue, all attendees should stay here. All the information regarding booking the hotel room will be provided upon purchase of the event ticket.

The low-lying areas mostly have humid tropical fauna. The dry season lasts from November/December until the end of April. From November to April, hotels charge a high rate.
The rainy season lasts from May to November. It rains daily, especially during the afternoon. The mornings are generally sunny and heavy showers occur around 2:00 am which lasts for 3-4 hours.
Since one will find some time apart from the HIVE Leadership Program’s planned schedule to explore the country, below are a few recommendations.
Poas Volcano National Park
This is one of the most visited places in the country due to its proximity to San Jose City and international airport. The crater is one of the largest in the world and one can trek all the way to the rim. The visit to the crater is a one day tour and the perfect place to visit if you plan to stay in San Jose for a long time.
When to visit: The best time to visit is during the morning as clouds surround the area well before noon.
How to get there: There are many day tours in San Jose for $60-120. There are no accommodations in the park. There is bus service as well and one return bus at 2:30. Make sure you do not miss it.
Arenal Volcano National Park
Arenal volcano is one of the top 10 most active volcanoes in the world. If you are looking for an adventure or relaxation or a close to nature visit, then this place is ideal for you. There are plenty of hotels and activities suitable for you. Apart from the volcano, one can also enjoy the hot springs in the area.
The adventurous ones can enjoy white water rafting, zip line tours, hikes, hanging bridges and much more. The nearest airport is Juan Santamaria International Airport which takes 3 hours 30 minutes approximately.
When to visit: Early mornings around 6 am is the best time to see the volcano.
How to reach: From San Jose, it takes over 3 hours to reach the place with your own car. There are shuttle, bus, flights and taxi services available as well.
La Fortuna Waterfall
This place is located on a short distance from the hotels. One can reach this place using a combination of short car ride, hike or horse ride. Since it is a bit of a challenging travel, you are advised to be in your best physical form.
When to visit: During the dry season the pool is ideal for a dip, but be careful about not going too far.
How to reach: One can hire a taxi or visit the place with a tour company. The taxi costs $15-20. One can visit the waterfall on your own or with a tour guide.
It is one of the most famous places in Costa Rica. Why is the place so special? The incredible blue color of the water, which looks artificially colored, attracts a lot of tourists. Although it is not possible to swim in the river, one can enjoy the phenomenal view. In order to reach here, one has to hike for 3 hours through the rainforest.
When to visit: The Park is open from 8 am to 5 pm across the year.
How to reach: One can visit the place using taxi, car or by the tour.
Manuel Antonio National Park
This is another popular place in Costa Rica which has a combination of wildlife, lush green vegetation, and an incredible beach. This is one of the favorite places for families, couples, and solo travelers.
The best time to visit this place is during December, as one can enjoy incredible kayak tours. One cannot find any hotels here but only small boutique hotels having their own style and characteristics. There are a lot of places for dining, including Costa Rican typical food along with other international cuisines.
How to reach: There are direct flights from Quepos Airport, bus or gray line.
When to visit: September to November is the best time to visit Manuel Antonia National Park.
